ABU DHABI, 19th December, 2018 (WAM) — The Ministry of Tolerance celebrated on Tuesday the International Human Solidarity Day. The ministry issued an awareness bulletin on the internet and social media and organised several activities, which reflect the UAE’s humanitarian role that has made it lead the world in this area over the last ten years.Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister for Tolerance, stressed that the UAE’s celebration is not just about words, slogans or programmes related to human solidarity, but it is also about diligent work throughout the year to support every person in need, regardless of their colour, religion, sex or race, due to the country’s belief in the importance of humanitarian work. This is what we learnt from the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and our wise leadership has continued this legacy until giving became key features of the Emirati personality, enabling the UAE to lead the world in humanitarian work, he said. International Human Solidary Day is a day to celebrate humanity, which brings us together. It is also a day to remind ourselves of the necessity of international cooperation, to eliminate poverty through international agreements, and to raise awareness about the importance of solidarity, and encourage international dialogue on strengthening solidarity, to achieve the world’s developmental goals for the millennium. It is definitely a day when we pride ourselves for the fact that the UAE has made significant efforts that are appreciated by the entire world, as the country has always been the first to offer help and humanitarian relief to those in need, he added.Sheikh Nahyan explained that solidarity has been part of the work of the United Nations, UN, since it was established, and the organisation has gathered the world’s peoples and nations to promote peace and human rights and achieve economic and social development while focussing on group security.He affirmed that the UAE leads the world in humanitarian work, through implementing many humanitarian initiatives that aim to improve the capabilities of people and strengthen their resilience when facing natural disasters, especially in poor countries.The UAE, since its establishment by Sheikh Zayed, has made humanitarian work a key part of its policy, until it became a model of humanitarian giving that aims to ease the suffering of needy people around the world, he further added. That is why the UAE is continuously launching humanitarian initiatives, which are numerous everywhere in the world, he further said.Sheikh Nahyan praised the pioneering regional and international humanitarian efforts of the wise leadership, represented by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.WAM/Nour Salman
